Virtueel Platform’s mission is to stimulate and strengthen cultural innovation by sharing knowledge about e-culture and increasing its visibility and scope. As sectorinstitute for e-culture appointed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Virtueel Platform has three main strategic goals:

– Track developments and stimulate research
– Give the sector’s achievements national and international recognition
– Strengthen relationships between the sector and cultural/social/political organisations.

Virtueel Platform is particularly interested in reaching out to individuals and organisations working in the arts and culture sectors, the government, funding agencies, education and the creative industry.

E-culture has two main aspects. In one sense, e-culture refers to electronic arts, network culture, media use and research into the cultural appropriation of new technologies. However, e-culture includes the much broader impact that digital technologies and interactive media currently have as the most important catalysts for change in the way we live, work and play. Meanwhile we should also remember that culture and the arts have always been at the basis of inspiring the developments in digital media. In short, e-culture is at the very cutting edge of all social and economic development.

Virtueel Platform is an independent foundation funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands.
